Shakugan No Shana Review

Shakugan No Shana (Often shortened to shana) Is a series that I watched early last year and when I found out that some of my friends had gotten into the series, it was a good enough reason to review the series.

Shakugan No Shana is a story about a boy named Yuji Sakai and his eye opening experience to the real world. It starts when Yuji finds out he is dead (Woah! Didn’t see that coming….seriously, I didnt) and that in rather a short time he will vanish and all memories of him will disappear as well. Following this he becomes an acquaintance to the Flame haired red hot eyed hunter, and she is a flame haze. Flame Haze is a name given to those that protects the balance of the world or something along those lines and basically throughout the series more different magical terms and beings are introduced to you. Yuji then gives the name shana to the flame haze and over time they begin to become friends and go through numerous battles.

Shana combines the slice of life genre with your action/adventure genre so well that the action fans don’t even realize they’re watching those parts of confession and romance. Although we have seen this method done before (Mai Hime etc.) it still feels original in its own way and you don’t really get sick of it.

Although shana was a good series I cannot say it was great, at times it left me wondering where the plot line had gone and if we were going to find it. I also noticed that it was rather anti-climatic, the finale really only goes for a few episodes and I felt like I could have watched only the last 5 episodes and still understood most of the plot.

Now I have only seen the first season and because of that obviously this review is only on the first season. Following the first series there is a movie, ova, “Shakugan no shana second” and currently airing in japan is “Shakugan no shana S” .

So for those looking for a fairly decent series with solid character development and good animation Shakugan no Shana is probably for you, But if your a hardcore Otaku and you don’t enjoy anime that is unnecessarily complicated then maybe you can give Shana a miss.

Oh by the way, Did I mention that there are some siblings that are constantly making out!?!

All for now

Japan’s Anime rankings

Japan has released their final anime rankings for 2009 so how did your favorite anime place?

Coming in 1st and 2nd place are 2 childrens programs, Sazae-San and Chibi Maruka Chan. Now chances are you’ve never seen them before and either have I.  While writing this post I have decided that just for the hell of it I’m going to show you guys a clip of Sazae-San the most popular Japanese televison!

Ok…..So, thats the number one animated program on Japanese television as voted by Japan.

But all Jokes aside It makes sense for Sazae-San to be at the top of the list because of its family friendly nature and the popularity it has with Japanese kids.

After Sazae-San and Chibi Maruka-chan we have the 3rd and my all time favorite show “OnePiece” Thats right One Piece ranked 3rd favorite animated television show and technically 1st for being the first actual anime on the list. OP definitely deserves the spot It was given and gratz to Eiichiro Oda!

One Piece

To celebrate One Piece’s epic win, I thought I would share with you the best OP Amv (Animated Music Video) I have ever seen. It brings me great pleasure to introduce you to “Sail On!”

Epic, right?

Now I’m sure you would like to find out the rest of the list so lets roll!

Coming in 4th we have “Dragon Ball Kai

DragonBall Kai

We then have “Detective Conan” in a very well placed 5th position

Detective Conan

In 6th and 7th we have “Pokemon: Diamond and Pearl” and “Tamagotchi!

In 8th position we have your generic Tournament anime “Inazuma eleven

Still staying strong in 9th position we have the very well known “Naruto Shippuden

And last and probably least in the list we have a new Beyblade series “Metal Fight BeyBlade” in 10th

I’m really not surprised to see Pokemon so high with all its success it shows no signs of ever stepping down, ever. Naruto Shippuden was destined to be up there along with DB Kai, I find it interesting that Tamagotchi does so unbelievably well in japan after the horrible feedback it got everywhere else.

Ohk, So I hope you guys enjoyed this post.

-Tallyho!

Death Note Review

Ohk,  Now anybody that knows anything at all about anime has heard of deathnote,  It has a ridiculously large fan base most of them being diehard L fan girls >< .

Haha, Anyway so although I watched Death Note about 2 years ago I thought it might be a good idea to review such a big series to get this newly anime dedicated blog rolling.

Death Note is a 37 episode series and as any well known shonen series it started in Shonen Jump’s weekly magazine as the manga written by Tsugumi Ohba. The series focuses around a Super Natural notebook found by a young university student by the name of Light Yagami, the notebook was dropped by a shinigami looking for some entertainment.

Lights father happens to be the chief of police and thats where light gets his firm sense of justice from and he hates the world that is now filled with crime. Light opens the notebook and finds out that it has the ability to kill anyone that is written on its pages, But of course there is a set of rules that helps the series advance in plot and create a few interesting twists.

Light starts killing the criminals with the extreme power that he now posses’s but along comes a world famous really rich and rather weird detective. His name is unknown to most and goes by the alias of L and his mission is to track down Light and make him pay for killing all the criminals.

Did I happen to mention that both of them are genius’s that come up with very precise plans to out do the other in the on-going game of cat and mouse. Death Note is different from most other shonen series because there is practically no fighting action, Its got a plot line that lures you in with its very intriguing mysteries.

Death Note all though some may some is over rated is definitely a series that is worth checking out, even for people that only like the more action type anime its still worth a look. There is a midway point that takes the series on a rather sharp turn and the plot develops rather well from that point on.

Funimation has made a rather bearable dub for all the animaniac’s that enjoy getting their dose of anime in english and 3 live action movies are released. Therefore if I were you I would go buy the series or if your broke at least go rent it out.

Light and L
